The IGNOU grade card brings together course-level academic information such as assignment marks, term-end examination marks and, where applicable, practical or other components. Looking at the individual components can give you a clearer picture of your academic progress than looking only at a final percentage.

Understanding the record
What is an IGNOU grade card?
A grade card is used to view course-level academic information associated with a student's programme. Depending on the course, the record may contain information related to assignments, term-end examinations, practical work and other academic components.
This makes the grade card useful when you want to understand how individual courses are progressing. It can also help you identify situations where one component has been recorded while another component is still unavailable.
The grade card and the term-end examination result serve different purposes. A result may provide examination outcomes, while a grade card can provide a broader course-level view of different components.
Percentage calculation
How the IGNOU percentage estimate is calculated
For many IGNOU theory courses, the final assessment combines continuous evaluation through assignments with the term-end examination. A 30% assignment component and 70% term-end examination component are commonly used for applicable theory courses. The exact evaluation structure can vary by programme and course, so students should check the applicable official IGNOU information when an exact calculation is required.

For applicable theory courses, the term-end examination contributes 70% of the final course assessment.
Assignment
30%
For applicable theory courses, the assignment component contributes 30% of the final course assessment.
Weighted calculation
The two components are weighted according to their contribution. They are not simply averaged as 50% assignment and 50% theory.
Theory contribution = Theory score × 0.70
Assignment contribution = Assignment score × 0.30
Estimated course score = Theory contribution + Assignment contribution
Example
Suppose the available scores for a theory course are 70% in the term-end examination component and 80% in the assignment component.
Theory: 70 × 0.70 = 49
Assignment: 80 × 0.30 = 24
Estimated course score: 49 + 24 = 73%
Important limitation
The percentage shown by this tool is an estimate.
A 70:30 calculation is useful for applicable theory courses, but it should not automatically be applied to every course in every IGNOU programme.
Some courses can contain practical, laboratory, project, tutorial or other assessment components. The applicable programme and course structure should be checked before assuming that the same calculation applies.
The result can also be affected by the information currently available in the academic record. For example, if an assignment or examination component has not yet been updated, an estimate based on incomplete information may not represent the eventual result.
For these reasons, IGNOUConnect's percentage should be treated as a convenient estimate that may be close to the final figure, not as a guaranteed or official percentage.
Reading your marks
What should you check in your grade card?
Instead of looking only at the final percentage, review each course and its available components. This makes it easier to identify incomplete information and understand why your estimated result may change after another update.
Assignment marks
Check whether the assignment information expected for the course is present. A blank or unavailable entry should be investigated before assuming that the assignment has not been accepted.

Missing information
What if your grade card is not fully updated?
Different parts of an academic record may become available at different times. A student may therefore see an examination mark while an assignment entry is still unavailable, or may see an assignment mark before another component appears.
When something is missing, first compare the record with your own assignment submission details or examination information. Avoid treating a missing entry as a final outcome until the relevant official record has been checked.
If the information remains unavailable or does not match your records, use the appropriate official IGNOU support or verification channel for the issue.
